The Adamawa State Police Command has commenced a full-scale investigation into the killing of an Anglican cleric, Rev. Emmanuel Ezeokwe, following a deadly attack by suspected gunmen in Song Local Government Area.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, April 21, 2026, in Zinai Village, Bolki district, a rural community within the state.
Confirming the development, Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, said armed assailants stormed the village at about 12:48 a.m. and opened fire on the cleric.

According to the police statement, the report was lodged by a resident, Amos Sunday, at approximately 6:30 a.m., prompting a swift response from security operatives.
“Upon receipt of the report, police operatives of the Command swiftly moved to the scene, where they found the victim and rushed him to a nearby hospital,” Nguroje stated.
He added that the cleric was later confirmed dead by a medical doctor, while his remains were deposited in the hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Preliminary investigations revealed that three empty shells of AK-47 ammunition were recovered at the scene, indicating the use of high-powered firearms during the attack.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Kabir Umar Hasaan, has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to lead a discreet investigation into the killing.
Tactical teams have also been deployed across the area to track down those responsible and ensure they are brought to justice.
The police command has appealed to residents of the community and surrounding areas to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could aid ongoing investigations.

Authorities say further updates will be provided as the probe progresses.
The killing adds to growing security concerns in parts of northeastern Nigeria, where communities continue to grapple with sporadic violent attacks.
