Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have arrested five suspected criminals and recovered weapons and other items during a security operation in Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The arrest followed a distress call reporting an attack by suspected armed criminals on communities within the local government area, according to a statement issued on Friday by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad.

The statement said troops deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Karim Lamido swiftly mobilised to the scene on June 4, 2026, in response to the report.
Upon arrival, the soldiers reportedly came under attack from unidentified gunmen and engaged the assailants in a firefight. The suspects were forced to retreat after troops responded with superior firepower.
The military said the fleeing suspects were pursued, leading to the arrest of five individuals believed to be connected to the attack.
Items recovered from the suspects include two motorcycles, daggers, machetes, assorted charms, gunpowder, and five mobile phones.
Commenting on the operation, the Commander of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, commended the troops for their professionalism, courage, and gallantry.
He reiterated the directive of the Chief of Army Staff for troops to remain vigilant and sustain ongoing operations aimed at flushing out criminal elements and denying them freedom of action across the state.

Akaliro also reassured residents of Taraba State of the military’s commitment to pursuing criminal elements and maintaining pressure on threats to peace and security until normalcy is fully restored.
The suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue.
