President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Obi of Onitsha, His Majesty Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe, on the occasion of his 85th birthday, describing the revered monarch as a symbol of unity, integrity and exemplary leadership.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President paid glowing tribute to the traditional ruler’s contributions to nation-building, corporate governance and community development.
Tinubu described the Obi of Onitsha as one of the foremost traditional rulers in the South-East and a respected corporate leader whose influence extends beyond his domain.
According to the President, Igwe Achebe’s life and service embody the values of grace, wisdom and commitment to national progress.
The President recalled the monarch’s distinguished career in the oil and gas sector before ascending the throne of his forefathers, noting that he served in several leadership positions within the Shell Group in Nigeria and other countries.
Before becoming Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Achebe held directorship positions in Shell Petroleum and other Shell companies operating in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Ghana, Sierra Leone, The Gambia, Liberia and Angola.
President Tinubu also commended the monarch for his sustained efforts in promoting peace, empowering young people and advancing socio-economic development within Onitsha and beyond.
He praised the traditional ruler’s role in fostering national cohesion and strengthening the relationship between grassroots communities and government institutions.
The President noted that Igwe Achebe has remained a respected voice in matters of governance, leadership and development, contributing significantly to public discourse and national unity.
Tinubu further acknowledged the monarch’s decades of service in corporate leadership, enterprise and governance, describing his legacy as one that continues to inspire future generations.
The President joined the royal family, the people of Onitsha and residents of Anambra State in celebrating the monarch’s milestone birthday.
He prayed for continued good health, strength and wisdom for the revered traditional ruler as he continues to provide leadership and guidance to his community, the state and the nation.
