Sporting Lagos emerged champions of the 2026 Nigeria National League (NNL) after edging city rivals Inter Lagos on goal difference at the end of the season-ending Super Four tournament in Ikenne, Ogun State.

The competition reached a thrilling climax on Friday at the Remo Stars Stadium, where Inter Lagos secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Sporting Lagos in a tense Lagos derby on the final day.

Despite the defeat, Sporting Lagos popularly known as the “Tech Boys” still clinched the NNL title and the ₦10 million prize money after finishing top of the standings on superior goal difference.

Sporting Lagos entered the decisive Matchday Three encounter needing only a draw to seal the crown, but their dominant displays in the opening fixtures ultimately proved decisive. The Lagos-based side began their Super Four campaign with a narrow 1-0 victory over Ranchers Bees before producing the tournament’s standout result with an emphatic 4-0 demolition of Doma United.

Inter Lagos also ended the tournament on six points after recovering strongly from an opening 1-0 defeat to Doma United. They reignited their title ambitions with a 1-0 win over Ranchers Bees before rounding off their campaign with the derby triumph against Sporting Lagos.

Ranchers Bees and Doma United finished third and fourth respectively, but all four clubs secured promotion to the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.

For Sporting Lagos, the Super Four triumph represents a significant statement ahead of their return to top-flight football. At the same time, Inter Lagos will also head into the elite division with renewed confidence following their impressive showing in Ikenne.

The atmosphere on the final day at the Remo Stars Stadium added colour and excitement to the competition, with the well-organised tournament offering fans a glimpse of the intensity and quality the newly promoted sides could bring to the NPFL next season.
