The defence in the trial of activist and publisher, Omoyele Sowore continued its case before the Federal High Court in Abuja with the testimony of its second witness, Uwen Davies, a Principal Officer with the Department of State Services.
During his evidence, Davies told the court that he acted in his official capacity when he wrote letters concerning the removal of a social media post. However, under cross-examination, he maintained that he did not author or sign another disputed letter dated September 7, 2025, insisting he acted only on the directives of his superiors.
The defence counsel informed the court that the officer who authored the disputed letter had retired from the DSS and his whereabouts were unknown, prompting an attempt to tender the document through Davies.
The prosecution opposed the move, arguing that the witness was not the author of the document and could not properly identify or authenticate it.
In his ruling, the trial judge rejected the document, holding that it could not be admitted through the witness because of concerns over its authenticity.
The case was adjourned to July 28 for the continuation of the defence.
