Former member of the House of Representatives, Oladipupo Adebutu, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State for the 2027 general election.

Adebutu, who was also the PDP governorship candidate in the 2023 election, emerged as the party’s consensus flag bearer during the governorship primary held in Abeokuta, the state capital, on Sunday.

The primary was conducted through voice affirmation by party members drawn from the 20 local government areas and 236 wards of the state, in the presence of officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Chairman of the PDP Governorship Primary Committee in Ogun State, Afolabi Ariyo, supervised the exercise and subsequently declared Adebutu the winner after party members affirmed his candidacy through a voice vote.

Ariyo said Adebutu was duly elected by party members across the state as the consensus governorship candidate of the PDP for the 2027 election.

In his acceptance speech, Adebutu thanked party members for their support and urged them to remain united ahead of the election.

He expressed confidence that the PDP would defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state in 2027.

Adebutu alleged that he was denied victory in the 2023 governorship election through manipulation but maintained that the will of the people would prevail in the next election.

“Dear party compatriots, the All Progressives Congress has been in government in Ogun State for over a decade and a half under different nomenclatures, holding our dear state under siege while our people groan under hardship,” he said.

The PDP candidate accused the APC-led administration in the state of worsening economic hardship and insisted that the ruling party must be voted out in the 2027 governorship election.
