Russia’s Defence Ministry has said its forces struck two cargo vessels in the Black Sea that were allegedly transporting weapons, ammunition and military equipment for Ukraine.
According to the ministry, the vessels were targeted as part of Russian military operations aimed at disrupting supplies to the Ukrainian armed forces. Russia said the strikes were carried out against ships involved in transporting military-related cargo.
The Russian Defence Ministry did not provide independent evidence to support its claims, and Reuters said it could not independently verify the nature of the cargo or the vessels’ alleged links to Ukraine’s military.
The reported strikes come amid increased military activity around the Black Sea, where both Russia and Ukraine have intensified attacks involving maritime routes, ports and shipping infrastructure during the ongoing conflict.
Russia has repeatedly said that Ukrainian ports and vessels carrying military supplies are legitimate targets, while Ukraine and its allies have accused Moscow of using strikes on Black Sea infrastructure to weaken Ukraine’s trade and logistics networks.
The Black Sea remains a key area of strategic importance, with routes used for military logistics as well as commercial shipping, including grain exports that have faced disruption during the war.
