American billionaire and SpaceX founder Elon Musk has announced plans to give one share of his aerospace company to every child in the United States in 2027, in what could become one of the largest private share-distribution initiatives in history.
Musk disclosed the plan on Monday through a post on his social media platform, X, indicating that the proposed distribution would be the beginning of further initiatives.
The announcement has attracted attention because of the potential financial value of the shares and the number of children who could benefit.

According to estimates from the United States Census Bureau, approximately 73 million children under the age of 18 live in the country.
Based on recent market valuations, the proposed distribution could involve shares worth more than $10 billion, although the final value would depend on the company’s share price when the programme begins.
Musk has not provided detailed information about eligibility requirements, the distribution process or whether parents and guardians would manage the shares on behalf of younger beneficiaries.
It also remains unclear whether the initiative would cover all children living in the United States or be restricted to American citizens.
The announcement follows SpaceX’s historic initial public offering in June 2026, which raised approximately $85.7 billion and marked a major milestone in the company’s financial development.
SpaceX, which operates satellite communications and space transportation businesses, has continued expanding its commercial activities while pursuing ambitious space exploration programmes.
The proposed giveaway also comes amid growing interest in encouraging long-term investment ownership among American children.
SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell has separately pledged shares to support investment accounts for more than two million children.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump recently proposed a $5,000 payment to every American adult citizen if Republicans retain control of both chambers of Congress in November’s midterm elections.
However, Musk’s share-distribution pledge is a separate initiative, and no formal connection between the two proposals has been established.
The announcement remains a promise, with further details expected before any distribution takes place in 2027.
