The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has called on Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to urgently resolve the ongoing doctors’ strike, warning that continued disruption of healthcare services could put patients’ lives at risk.
The party appealed in a statement issued by its State Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Adewara, who criticised the state government’s handling of the dispute.
Doctors under the Kwara Doctors Forum commenced a seven-day warning strike on Thursday, October 15, following the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum issued to the government.

The industrial action involves the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), the National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners, and the Association of Resident Doctors at Kwara State University Teaching Hospital.
Their demands include the reversal of a two per cent salary deduction for the Kwara Health Insurance Scheme, implementation of the 2025 Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS), payment of outstanding allowances for 2025 and 2026, and recruitment of additional medical personnel.
The PDP maintained that the grievances deserved immediate attention, accusing the government of failing to use the ultimatum period to reach an agreement with the doctors.
It also expressed concern about inadequate medical infrastructure, workforce shortages and increasing pressure on healthcare professionals.
The party claimed that approximately 362 doctors were serving Kwara’s estimated population of 4.2 million, although the figures have not been independently verified.
Meanwhile, reports from Kwara State University Teaching Hospital indicate that the strike has disrupted routine medical services, leaving some patients facing delays in accessing treatment.
MDCAN Chairman, Dr Adeola Olasinde, said the doctors were not opposed to health insurance but wanted transparency and accountability in the management of contributions deducted from their salaries.

The hospital’s Medical Director, Dr Ahmed Bola AbdulQadir, has appealed to the striking doctors to resume work, citing concerns about patients requiring urgent medical attention.
The warning strike is scheduled to end on October 22, unless further developments alter the situation.
The PDP urged the state government to engage the medical associations and reach a resolution that would restore normal healthcare services across affected public hospitals.
