The Rivers State Police Command has dismissed four police personnel linked to the death of a student, Anthony Obodo, during a police pursuit around Agip Junction by Ada George in Port Harcourt.
The Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, Olugbenga Adepoju, disclosed this during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters in Port Harcourt, saying the officers had undergone disciplinary proceedings and were recommended for dismissal from the Nigeria Police Force.
The affected officers are ASP Fabian Kpeanabari, Inspector Solomon Nworgu, Corporal Alfred Louis and Police Constable Michael Ejokwu.
Adepoju added that the dismissed officers would be charged to court to face appropriate criminal charges in line with the law.
Meanwhile, the Command announced the arrest of 14 suspected members of different one-chance robbery syndicates operating in Port Harcourt and its environs.
The Commissioner said the arrests followed a directive to the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) to intensify intelligence-led operations against criminal groups following increased reports of one-chance robberies in the city.
He said the operation began with the arrest of 30-year-old Nelson Idakiniselegba, also known as Mandela, at a suspected criminal hideout on Niger Street, Port Harcourt, on August 18, 2026.
Adepoju reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to professionalism, accountability, transparency and respect for human rights, while urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the police. He also cautioned against taking the law into their own hands.
