The Rivers State Police Command has arrested four suspected members of a kidnapping syndicate, rescued an abducted woman and recovered the vehicle allegedly used in carrying out the crime.

The Command said the breakthrough followed a report by Mr Ikechukwu, who informed the police that his 35-year-old wife, Mrs Ikechukwu, was abducted by armed men on July 11, 2026, while attending to customers at her shop.

According to the police, the victim was forced into a white tinted mini-bus by the kidnappers, who fled the scene.

Following the report, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), acting on the directives of the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, launched an intelligence-led investigation that led to the arrest of four suspects.

The suspects were identified as Owhor Chinedu, 42, from ONELGA; Isioto Waribok, 30, from Andoni LGA; Maduabuchi Emeka, 34, from ONELGA; and Joe Karachi, 28, also from ONELGA, all in Rivers State.

Police said a white mini-bus believed to have been used during the abduction was recovered during the operation.

According to the Command, preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects confessed to their individual roles in the kidnapping.

The police added that efforts are ongoing to arrest two other members of the syndicate who remain at large and to recover the firearms allegedly used during the operation.

The Commissioner of Police reaffirmed the Command’s determination to rid Rivers State of kidnappers and other violent criminals, assuring residents that security operations would continue across the state.

He appealed to members of the public to support the police by providing timely, credible and actionable information, assuring that all information received would be treated with strict confidentiality.

The Rivers State Police Command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property and pledged to ensure that those responsible for criminal activities are arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
