Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has apologised to fans and organisers following his decision to step away from a celebrity boxing bout after the first round.
In a press statement issued by his management under Zeh Nation/Dr Zeh, the singer acknowledged the disappointment caused by the outcome of the fight and his decision to leave the contest prematurely.
The statement, addressed to the event organisers, Balmoral Group, the event team, fans, friends and family, expressed regret over the incident and thanked supporters who turned out for the event.
“We understand the disappointment caused by the outcome of the fight and by Portable’s decision to step away after the first round,” the management said, while appealing to the public to respect the singer’s decision and perspective.
Portable’s management also accepted responsibility for the disappointment generated by the episode, saying it remained grateful for the support the artiste had received throughout his career.
The statement further commended Balmoral Group and other stakeholders for organising the celebrity boxing event, while apologising for any inconvenience caused.
According to the management, feedback from the incident had been noted and would be used as a learning experience.
“We are committed to learning from this experience. We promise to come back stronger and do better next time,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, the controversy surrounding Portable’s withdrawal has generated reactions from fans and members of the public, particularly over his decision to end his participation after just one round.
His management, however, urged supporters to continue to back the controversial singer, expressing appreciation for their “continued support, understanding, and belief in Portable.”
