The Inspector-General of Police has emphasised the need for continuous training and professional development for officers saddled with command responsibilities, citing the changing nature of security threats.
The IGP stated this at the Police Mobile Force Training College, Ila-Orangun, Osun State, where officers participating in the Squadron Commanders Conversion Course One, 2026, completed a one-month intensive training programme.
The course brought together officers drawn from Police Mobile Force formations across the country for specialised training in leadership, command and operational responsibilities.
The training comes amid increasingly complex security challenges requiring commanders to make sound decisions, effectively coordinate personnel and respond appropriately to emerging threats.
Representing the Inspector-General of Police at the event, the police leadership said the programme was designed to enhance the capacity of officers preparing to assume squadron command positions.
The training focused on key areas including discipline, effective coordination and professionalism in the performance of police duties.
The police said strengthening the capabilities of officers in command positions remained essential to improving operational effectiveness and ensuring effective responses to security challenges across the country.
