The Bauchi State Police Command has commenced a statewide operation targeting unregistered vehicles and the use of fake, concealed, or improperly displayed number plates, as part of efforts to strengthen security and improve road safety.
The enforcement exercise, which began on Wednesday, was initiated following a directive from the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun. To ensure swift prosecution of offenders, the command has deployed mobile courts across key locations in the state.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habibu, the command disclosed that mobile courts have been positioned at the headquarters of the state’s five area commands and other strategic points within the Bauchi metropolis.

According to the police, the operation focuses on vehicles without valid registration, those with obscured number plates, and those displaying unauthorised or counterfeit registration numbers.
Speaking on the initiative, the Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, described unregistered vehicles as a significant security concern, noting that criminal elements often use them to carry out activities such as kidnapping, armed robbery, and other violent crimes.
He emphasised that the exercise is designed to protect residents rather than inconvenience law-abiding motorists.
“The objective of this operation is to safeguard lives and property by ensuring that all vehicles on our roads can be properly identified and traced when necessary,” the commissioner said.
Aliyu warned that any vehicle found violating registration regulations would be impounded, while offenders would face prosecution before the mobile courts. He added that penalties would be applied in accordance with existing motor vehicle registration and licensing laws.

The police command advised vehicle owners to regularise their registration documents, ensure their number plates are clearly displayed, and avoid any form of alteration or concealment.
Residents were also urged to cooperate with officers conducting the enforcement exercise, as the command pledged to sustain the operation across the state.
Authorities said the initiative forms part of broader measures aimed at preventing the use of untraceable vehicles by criminal networks and enhancing public safety throughout Bauchi State.
