The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a nursing officer and a woman over the alleged abduction of a one-and-a-half-year-old boy from the paediatric ward of Babura General Hospital.
The police said the child was rescued from the 20-year-old female suspect, Khadija Aliyu, after detectives traced her to the outskirts of Babura.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Shi’isu Adam, said the investigation also led to the arrest of a 25-year-old nursing officer attached to the hospital, Sadik Sale Yahaya, who is suspected of conspiring with the woman.
According to the police, preliminary investigations indicate that the woman allegedly planned to take the child to Kaduna and sell him for two million naira.
The rescued child is currently in protective custody and will be reunited with his family after the necessary verification.

Both suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue to determine the full circumstances of the alleged abduction and whether other people were involved.
The Jigawa State Commissioner of Police, CP Tijjani Murtala, commended the officers involved in the operation and urged residents to provide credible information to assist the police in combating crime.
