The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday paid a condolence visit to Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, following recent security incidents in the state.

The delegation, led by senior lawyer and party chieftain, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, conveyed the sympathy of the party’s leadership and members to the government and people of Oyo State over the incidents.

Speaking during the visit, Turaki commended the state government’s response to the situation but called on the Federal Government to review the country’s security structure by granting governors greater operational authority to tackle insecurity.

He said stronger powers at the sub-national level would improve the protection of lives and property across the states.

Responding, Governor Makinde thanked the PDP leadership for the visit, describing it as a demonstration of solidarity during a difficult period for the state.

“You really know your friends when you are in bad times, and you have proven to be our good friends,” Makinde said.

The governor assured the delegation that his administration was taking necessary measures to address the security challenges and prevent future occurrences.

“We are taking all necessary steps to conclusively address this particular incident and proactively prevent a recurrence,” he stated.

Makinde acknowledged that the incident had caused trauma among residents but maintained that citizens remained united in confronting insecurity in the state.
