The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed claims that it is no longer politically relevant, insisting that the party remains strong, united and well-positioned for future electoral victories.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, the party said its growing membership and recent electoral successes demonstrate that it continues to enjoy widespread national acceptance.

The PDP cited what it described as the influx of prominent political figures into its fold, victories in the Adamawa State Local Government elections and the Rivers State Senate bye-election, as well as increasing support from stakeholders across several states, as evidence of its resurgence.

The party was reacting to comments by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who reportedly described the PDP as “dead” and urged the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory to “allow what is dead to remain dead.”

The opposition party described the remarks as political wishful thinking, arguing that the infrastructure project at whose inauguration the statement was made was conceived and delivered under the supervision of a PDP member currently serving in the APC-led Federal Government.

According to the PDP, the performance of its members in public office reflects the party’s enduring tradition of competence, effective leadership and service delivery.

The party maintained that it remains alive, healthy and determined to rebuild, expressing confidence that Nigerians would once again entrust it with leadership in future elections.
