Skywatchers across parts of the Americas and Europe have observed a partial lunar eclipse, as the Moon passed through Earth’s shadow in a celestial event visible across large parts of the two regions.
According to NASA, about 96 per cent of the Moon passed through Earth’s umbra, the darkest central portion of Earth’s shadow, falling just short of a total lunar eclipse.
The event created a striking appearance as much of the lunar surface became obscured by Earth’s shadow, attracting observers who gathered in different locations to watch and photograph the phenomenon.
A partial lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon moves partly through Earth’s umbra while another portion remains outside the darkest part of the shadow.
The event was documented in photographs from across the Americas and Europe, with images capturing people watching the eclipse and the changing appearance of the Moon in the night sky.
