Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has joined Nigeria’s camp in Uyo ahead of the team’s opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixture against Madagascar.
The Nigeria national team confirmed the Udinese goalkeeper’s arrival on Friday through a post on its official X account, accompanied by a photograph of Okoye.
“Welcome, Maduka,” the team wrote.
Okoye was the final member of Nigeria’s 24-man squad to report to camp, having missed the first two training sessions in Uyo.
His delayed arrival had generated criticism after he was seen at Milan Fashion Week, where he represented Udinese and modelled the club’s third kit. The goalkeeper was also photographed with American rapper Cardi B during the event.
Coach Éric Chelle had earlier explained that Okoye’s Italian club requested that he remain in Italy to fulfil some engagements before reporting for international duty.
With Okoye now in camp, Chelle has all three of his selected goalkeepers available for the qualifier, with Stanley Nwabali and Arthur Okonkwo completing the squad.
Nigeria are scheduled to face Madagascar at 5pm on Friday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo in their opening Group L match of the 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign.
