The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of retired OGTV broadcaster Kitan Oyesiku, popularly known as Aunty Kitan.

Oyesiku was killed alongside her 38-year-old security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, at her residence in the Kobape area of Abeokuta last Saturday.

Ogun police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the security guard’s body was found within the security post, while Oyesiku’s body was discovered lying face up inside her apartment. Her vehicle, which had also gone missing after the attack, was later recovered within the state.

Just five days after the killing, police announced the arrest of the suspects Sodeinde Olajuwon Phillip, 22; Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27; and Sobu Obafunsho, 36.

Authorities identified Sodeinde, a former security guard to the deceased, as the principal suspect, alleging that he recruited the two others to help carry out the killing.

Parading the suspects at the command’s headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, on Thursday, Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni said investigations revealed that Sodeinde had repeatedly contacted Oyesiku to demand money even after he stopped working for her.

The CP said the missing vehicle was recovered near Sodeinde’s residence, and that he was arrested at a construction site in GRA Ibara, where he worked as a labourer. During interrogation, Sodeinde reportedly admitted to killing Oyesiku to “teach her a lesson,” citing unresolved grievances dating back to his time as her security guard.

Giving further details, the police chief said: “The Command launched intensive investigation, intelligence gathering, and technical tracking operations aimed at identifying those responsible and recovering the missing vehicle.”

He explained that operatives traced and recovered the missing Lexus RX 330 belonging to the deceased on June 22, 2026. Although the vehicle’s ignition key had been removed and its number plates detached, detectives found the registration plate hidden beneath one of the seats, allowing them to confirm it belonged to Oyesiku.

According to the CP, a handwritten note left behind at the scene by the suspects proved to be a crucial piece of evidence. Forensic analysis of the note generated leads that helped detectives identify and track down those responsible.

“Further intelligence gathering and painstaking investigation led to the identification and arrest of the principal suspect, Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip ‘m’ aged 22 years, on 24th June, 2026, at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, where he was working as a labourer,” the CP said.

He added that follow-up operations led to the arrest of Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, a 27-year-old security guard, and Sobu Obafunsho, a 36-year-old bricklayer, bringing all identified suspects connected to the alleged conspiracy into custody.

“The suspect stated that the murder of Madam Olakitan Oyesiku was intended to teach her a lesson,” the commissioner said.

Narrating how the attack unfolded, the CP said the suspects first overpowered the security guard and used him to gain entry into the residence, after which they attacked Oyesiku and went on to kill the guard as well.

Items recovered from locations linked to the suspects include a broken hammer, a cutlass, a plank, a black pen, and other exhibits relevant to the investigation.

The Commissioner stressed that despite the statements and evidence gathered so far, all suspects remain entitled to due process under the law. He added that investigations are continuing to strengthen the evidence and ensure a thorough prosecution of everyone connected to the crime.

In his remarks, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ogun State Council, Wale Olarewaju, commended the Commissioner of Police for uncovering the circumstances surrounding the broadcaster’s death.
