The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

The results were approved at the conclusion of the 2026 BECE Award Committee Meeting, which took place at the council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.

According to a statement by the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani, a total of 186,291 candidates registered for the examination across 12 subjects.

The candidates were drawn from all 36 states of the federation, the Federal Capital Territory, and five foreign countries.

NECO said the examination ran from April 20 to April 30, 2026.

Sani disclosed that the Award Committee was chaired by Dr Folake Olatunji-David, Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education, who represented the Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, at the meeting. She expressed satisfaction with the processes that led to the release of the results.

He noted that the meeting was attended by secondary school principals from across the country, alongside members of NECO’s management team.

Meanwhile, the Award Committee has approved July 22 and 23, 2026, as the dates for the 2026 BECE Re-sit Examination in Mathematics and English Studies.

NECO explained that the re-sit examination is intended for candidates with conditional deficiencies in either Mathematics, English Studies, or both subjects, allowing them to address the shortfall and obtain the certification required for admission and placement into Senior Secondary School One (SSS1) without having to repeat a full academic year.

The council said the initiative is designed to support students in meeting the academic requirements needed to progress to the next stage of their education.
