The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 43-year-old man, Edebiri Temitope, over the death of his neighbour, Oje Michael Eje, 38, following an alleged confrontation over the victim’s interaction with the suspect’s young son.
The incident occurred in Mowe, Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State. Police confirmed on Friday that Temitope had been arrested and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
According to accounts of the incident, Eje had returned from work when the suspect’s young son approached him.
Eje reportedly hugged the child and briefly lifted him while playing with him before returning to his apartment.
The suspect was subsequently alleged to have confronted Eje over what he considered rough play with his son.
The disagreement allegedly escalated into an assault during which Eje was struck with a bamboo stick. He later died following the incident.
Temitope reportedly left the area after the incident, prompting efforts by the police to locate him.
Confirming his arrest, Ogun State Police spokesperson DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi said the suspect had been transferred to the State CID for further investigation.
Police said the case remains under investigation and that the suspect would be charged to court upon completion of the necessary investigative procedures.
