The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has temporarily suspended the 2026 Batch B Stream I Orientation Course for prospective corps members assigned to Niger State due to ongoing rehabilitation work at the state orientation camp.

The announcement was made in a notice published on the scheme’s official social media platform on Sunday 14 June, 2026.

According to the NYSC, the decision became necessary as renovation activities continue at the orientation camp, making it unsuitable for the immediate commencement of the exercise for corps members deployed to the state.

The scheme assured affected prospective corps members that alternative arrangements would be communicated as soon as possible. It stated that participants would receive timely information regarding a new reporting date and the location where the orientation programme would eventually take place.

NYSC management also expressed regret over the inconvenience caused by the suspension and appealed for understanding from both the affected corps members and their families.

The development follows extensive damage caused by a windstorm that struck the NYSC orientation camp in Paiko, located in Paikoro Local Government Area of Niger State. The incident reportedly affected several key facilities, including hostels, the multipurpose hall, kitchen and staff accommodation, prompting the state government to undertake major rehabilitation works.

While the 2026 Batch B Stream I Orientation Course commenced nationwide on June 10 and is expected to conclude on June 30, corps members posted to Niger State will now have to wait for further directives from the NYSC regarding the continuation of their orientation programme.

The scheme reiterated its commitment to ensuring that all participants are accommodated in a safe and conducive environment once the necessary arrangements have been finalised.
