The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Permanent Orientation Camp in Ede, Osun State, is undergoing a comprehensive renovation aimed at modernizing its infrastructure, improving operational standards.

The upgrade, described by officials as a critical intervention, seeks to enhance the welfare of corps members while providing a more conducive environment for orientation activities.

The initiative gained momentum shortly after the appointment of the Osun State NYSC Coordinator, Ekeng Ita Kubiangha, who assumed office on January 9, 2026. Confronted with deteriorating facilities, Kubiangha initiated consultations with key stakeholders, including senior government officials and the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke, to secure support for a large-scale upgrade.

These engagements identified two priority areas: the rehabilitation of the orientation camp and the proposed relocation of the NYSC State Secretariat to a more suitable site.

Between March and April 2026, the Coordinator undertook an extensive advocacy tour across local government areas in the state. The visits enabled engagement with traditional rulers, community leaders, and other stakeholders, helping to build support for the project.

A major breakthrough occurred on April 12, when the Chief of Staff to the Osun State Government, Kazeem Akinleye, conducted an on-site inspection of the camp alongside the Coordinator. The visit highlighted the urgent need for structural rehabilitation and accelerated the implementation phase.

Three days later, on April 15, engineers and construction workers were deployed to the camp, marking the official commencement of renovation work.

The scope of the project covers multiple sections of the facility. Male hostel blocks F, G, H, and K are undergoing full upgrades, including roof replacements, installation of aluminium windows and new doors, modern water closet systems, improved plumbing, and enhanced security fittings.

Similarly, female hostel block D and sanitation facilities across other blocks are being rehabilitated with upgraded roofing, plumbing systems, and modern sanitary installations.

The camp’s multi-purpose hall is also being reinforced, with a complete roof overhaul and structural improvements to increase its capacity. In addition, the participants’ hall, currently used as staff accommodation is being re-roofed.

To improve ceremonial standards, a permanent saluting dais is under construction. The facility is expected to be completed ahead of the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream 2 orientation course and will serve as a standard platform for parades and official ceremonies.

Speaking on the development, Kubiangha described the renovation as a long-overdue intervention that will significantly improve camp operations. He emphasized that the project reflects a shared commitment between the NYSC and the Osun State Government to prioritize the safety, welfare, and overall experience of corps members.

He also expressed confidence that the pace of work would ensure timely completion, commending Governor Adeleke, his cabinet, and other stakeholders for their support.

Observers noted that the scale and urgency of the project demonstrate a strong commitment to delivering improved infrastructure within a limited timeframe.

Upon completion, the upgraded camp is expected to significantly enhance living and training conditions, boost morale among corps members and staff, and strengthen the overall effectiveness of the NYSC orientation programme in Osun State.

According to management, the planned relocation of the State Secretariat further signals a broader effort to reposition the scheme for greater efficiency and long-term sustainability.
