The National Youth Service Corps has commended security agencies and local vigilante groups for the successful rescue of 15 corps members abducted in Kogi State.

The corps members were kidnapped on August 26, 2026, while travelling from the NYSC orientation camp in Bayelsa State to Abuja after completing their orientation programme.

In a statement issued by the NYSC management, the scheme lauded the Nigerian Armed Forces, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services and Kogi State vigilante groups for their roles in the search and rescue operation.

The NYSC described the operation as a demonstration of professionalism, courage, commitment and effective coordination among the security agencies involved.

It also acknowledged the support of President Bola Tinubu, saying his concern for the safety and welfare of corps members helped drive the efforts to secure their release.

The scheme further commended the Office of the National Security Adviser and the Minister of Youth Development for their contributions to the rescue operation.

The NYSC expressed appreciation to the families of the affected corps members for their patience and cooperation throughout the period of their captivity.

It also praised the media for reporting the incident responsibly without compromising efforts to secure the safe release of the victims.

According to the statement, all 15 corps members have been safely recovered and are in good spirits, with plans to resume duties at their respective places of primary assignment.

The scheme acknowledged that the corps members had endured a traumatic experience but praised their resilience and determination to continue their national service.

The NYSC said it remained committed to protecting corps members nationwide and would work with relevant government institutions and security agencies to strengthen safety measures.

It added that lessons from the incident would be used to review existing security protocols and prevent similar occurrences in the future.

The NYSC reaffirmed its commitment to the safety, welfare and wellbeing of corps members serving across the country.
