The Executive Chairman of Nsit Ibom Local Government Area, Otobong Aaron, has received participants who successfully completed Levels 1, 2 and 3 of the Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Competency Development training sponsored by her administration.
The training, organized by the Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria, forms part of the council’s broader youth empowerment agenda focused on capacity building, professional certification, and skills acquisition.

Addressing the graduands at the Council Secretariat in Afaha Offiong, the chairman emphasized the growing importance of combining academic qualifications with practical skills, urging young people to position themselves for emerging opportunities in a competitive labor market.
She commended the participants for their dedication, noting that all those who enrolled in the programme completed it successfully. “I appreciate each and every one of you for your seriousness and commitment. It is commendable that the same number who started the programme saw it through to completion,” she said. Aaron further highlighted ongoing efforts by her administration to strengthen human capital development, including the construction of a Skill Acquisition and Computer-Based Technology Centre at Ikot Obio Etan, which she said would serve as a hub for innovation and training within and beyond the local government area.
Earlier, the Lead Facilitator and State Coordinator of ISPON, Mr. Ita Benson, praised the initiative, describing it as a significant investment in human development and a model for other local governments.
He noted that Nsit Ibom stands out as the only council currently sponsoring indigenous people for professional safety certification training. Benson added that the programme aligns with the development vision of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Bassey Eno, and disclosed that at least three beneficiaries have already secured employment in reputable organizations following the training. In separate remarks, the class representative, Mr. Ubia, and a former Peoples Democratic Party chapter chairman, Rt. Hon. Nsikak Ikpe, commended the council chairman for providing free access to the programme, noting that it has significantly enhanced participants’ knowledge and employability.

The event featured the presentation of certificates to the graduates, alongside special presentations of portraits to the chairman by beneficiaries and the institute’s coordinator. Other dignitaries in attendance included the Vice Chairman of Council, Hon. Udeme Phillip; Leader of Council, Hon. Nsikak Asuquo; and Secretary of Council, Mrs. Iyakndue Unaam.
