The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, says it has sanctioned 79 personnel for professional misconduct and arrested suspects linked to critical infrastructure vandalism and illegal arms dealing.
The Commandant General, Ahmed Audi, said disciplinary proceedings have been concluded against 75 personnel, including an Assistant Commandant General, two Deputy Commandants, 35 senior officers and 37 junior officers.
The infractions include job racketeering, financial misconduct, theft, unauthorised absence and actions considered prejudicial to national security. Penalties include dismissal, compulsory retirement and recommendations for criminal prosecution.
Two officers, Hosea Habila and Jibrin Labaran, were dismissed and recommended for prosecution following an investigation into an incident in Nasarawa State that resulted in the death of a Mining Marshals commander.
The NSCDC also said four personnel are facing disciplinary and legal proceedings over alleged illegal arms dealing, while nine suspects linked to arms and ammunition trafficking were arrested across Ebonyi, Enugu, Kogi, Niger and the Federal Capital Territory.
In a separate operation, six suspected railway infrastructure vandals were arrested in Sabon Wuse, Niger State, with a trailer-load of railway sleepers allegedly concealed in a truck.
Two other suspects were also arrested over alleged electrical and cable vandalism in the Federal Capital Territory.
The NSCDC said all affected personnel and suspects remain entitled to due process, while investigations and legal proceedings continue.
The Corps urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with useful information to help protect critical national infrastructure.
