NPF ANNOUNCES DEATH OF AIG KANAYO UZUEGBU

The Nigeria Police Force has announced the death of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Kanayo V. Uzuegbu, psc(+), who passed away on May 30, 2026.

In a statement issued on Friday by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, the police described the late senior officer as a dedicated professional who served the nation and the Force with distinction for more than three decades.

A native of Umuaka Community in Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State, Uzuegbu joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1992 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police and underwent training at the Police Academy, Kaduna.

Throughout his career, he held several command, operational and administrative positions across state commands, zonal formations and the Force Headquarters in Abuja. His notable appointments included Squadron Commander of No. 15 Police Mobile Force, Ilorin; Area Commander in Owerri and Karu; Director of the Central Planning Training Unit at the Police Staff College, Jos; Commissioner of Police, Operations Communication, Force Headquarters; and Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command.

The late AIG also served in international peacekeeping operations as Commander of Sector 8 of the African Union Peacekeeping Mission in Darfur, Sudan.

Uzuegbu was academically accomplished, holding a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from the University of Port Harcourt, a Higher Diploma in Strategic Studies from the University of Maiduguri, and a Master’s degree in Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution from the University of Nigeria. He also attended several professional courses in counter-terrorism, human rights, law of armed conflict and strategic leadership.

The leadership of the Nigeria Police Force extended its condolences to the deceased officer’s family, colleagues and associates, describing him as an officer who brought honour to the Force through his professionalism and commitment to public service.

“The Nigeria Police Force prays that the Almighty God grants his soul eternal rest and grants his family the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss,” the statement said.

Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family at a later date.
