Detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu, has formally withdrawn the authority of his longtime lawyer, Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor, to represent him, his family or the IPOB movement.

In a letter dated July 22, 2026, reportedly written from the Sokoto Correctional Centre, Kanu said Ejiofor’s appointment had previously been terminated verbally, with the latest correspondence serving as formal written confirmation.

He directed the lawyer to cease acting, speaking or making public representations on his behalf, his family or IPOB.

Kanu also instructed Ejiofor to stop appearing as his legal representative in court or any official capacity and to take steps to withdraw from pending matters where he remains counsel on record.

He further warned against the disclosure or use of confidential information obtained during the course of the legal representation without his written consent or a court order.

Reacting to the development, Ejiofor declined to comment on the substance of the letter, telling ABN TV: “It has nothing to do with me. Ndewo, my brother.”

The development comes as Kanu’s terrorism trial continues before the Federal High Court.
