The Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, Akwa Ibom State Branch, has commended the state government for the construction and renovation of the Victor Attah International Airport Hospital in Uyo.
The NMA State Chairman, Dr Tiemah Akpabio, gave the commendation during an inspection tour of the facility alongside members of the State Officers Committee and some Medical Superintendents.
Dr. Akpabio described the hospital as a significant healthcare infrastructure capable of improving access to quality medical services, saying the facility had met international best standards and was equipped with modern medical facilities.

She commended Governor Umo Eno for his commitment to improving healthcare delivery and providing accessible health infrastructure for residents of the state.
Commissioner for Health, Dr Ekem Emmanuel John, who conducted the NMA delegation round the facility, said the hospital was designed and equipped to meet international standards.
Dr. John said the facility has sophisticated equipment for advanced diagnosis and treatment, modern operating theatres, an Accident and Emergency Unit with in-situ radiology services, as well as facilities designed to guarantee patients’ privacy.
He added that the hospital has well-furnished doctors’ quarters and call rooms, maternity wards, paediatric wards, male and female wards, among other facilities.
The Commissioner disclosed that the hospital is fully solar-powered to ensure sustainable and uninterrupted electricity supply.

He said the standard would be replicated across secondary healthcare facilities in the state as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery.
The Victor Attah International Airport Hospital is expected to be commissioned next month by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The NMA-AKS pledged to partner with the state government towards the optimal utilisation of the facility and improved healthcare delivery in Akwa Ibom State.
