The National Judicial Council (NJC) has recommended the appointment of 12 new Justices of the Court of Appeal and suspended two judges for one year without pay over cases of judicial misconduct.
The decisions were reached during the council’s 111th meeting chaired by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.

According to the council, the recommendations are aimed at filling vacancies created by retirements and promotions within the judiciary while strengthening the justice system for improved service delivery.
The council also approved appointments to other judicial positions, including a new judge for the Benue State High Court and two Kadis for the Katsina State Sharia Court of Appeal. It clarified that retired public servants remain eligible for judicial appointments, provided they meet constitutional and policy requirements.
On disciplinary matters, the NJC suspended two judges after finding them guilty of judicial misconduct involving the handling of ex parte applications and due process violations.

The council further dismissed several petitions against judicial officers for lack of merit while ordering further investigations into others. It also commended some judges for outstanding performance during the 2024 and 2025 legal years.
