Barcelona have reached an agreement with Manchester City to sign Spanish midfielder Rodri for a fee believed to be around €75 million ($87 million), according to a source at the Catalan club.

The 30-year-old Spain international is expected to complete the move to Camp Nou in the coming days, with Barcelona set to make an official announcement once the transfer is finalised.

Rodri, who joined Manchester City from Atletico Madrid in 2019, has been a key figure in the club’s remarkable success under manager Pep Guardiola. He helped City win the UEFA Champions League in 2023 and four Premier League titles, among 12 major trophies.

The midfielder also won the Ballon d’Or in 2024 after playing a pivotal role in Spain’s international success.

Barcelona’s decision to pursue Rodri was influenced by the prolonged absence of Frenkie de Jong, who is expected to miss several months through injury.

The Catalan giants reportedly had two bids rejected by Manchester City before reaching an agreement on Sunday.

Rodri had attracted interest from Real Madrid following Spain’s World Cup triumph in July, but Barcelona ultimately won the race for his signature.

The move would see Rodri return to Spain after seven years in England, where he established himself as one of the world’s leading defensive midfielders.

Barcelona are also expected to complete a deal for Joao Cancelo in the coming days after the Portuguese defender spent last season on loan at the club from Al Hilal.
