At least nine people have reportedly died following a shooting incident in Erie, Pennsylvania, United States, with authorities confirming that the suspected gunman was also dead.
City officials disclosed on Saturday that the situation had been brought under control and that there was no longer an active threat to residents.
However, authorities had yet to clarify whether the suspected shooter was included among the nine reported fatalities.
According to preliminary information attributed to investigators, all nine deaths occurred before law enforcement officers arrived at the scene.
Police reportedly responded within minutes after receiving an alert from ShotSpotter, an automated gunshot detection system designed to notify security agencies of suspected gunfire.
Officials said no additional shots were fired after officers arrived, although responding personnel initially faced uncertainty over the suspect’s location and whether the individual remained an immediate threat.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting, including the relationship between the victims and the suspected attacker, were not immediately disclosed.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro expressed sadness over the incident, confirming that he had spoken with Erie Mayor Daria Devlin and offered the full support of his administration.
“My heart breaks for this family,” Shapiro wrote on X.
The governor added that he and his wife, Lori, were praying for the victims’ relatives and the wider Erie community as residents struggled to come to terms with the tragedy.
Authorities were expected to provide additional information during a news conference scheduled for 4 p.m. on Saturday.
Investigators were also expected to clarify the circumstances surrounding the deaths, establish the identity of the suspected shooter and determine what led to the violence.
The incident has raised concerns about public safety and gun violence in the United States, where shootings continue to generate calls for stronger preventive measures and improved emergency responses.

Erie, situated in northwestern Pennsylvania along Lake Erie, is approximately 128 miles north of Pittsburgh.
As investigations continue, authorities have urged residents to rely on verified official updates and avoid circulating unconfirmed information about the victims or the circumstances of the shooting.
