Nigeria has secured approximately $500 million in funding from the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation (Gavi) to strengthen routine immunisation and primary healthcare delivery across the country.
The funding followed high-level talks in Abuja between the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, and Gavi’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr Sania Nishtar.
Approved under the Gavi 6.0 programme, the financial support will be used to accelerate routine immunisation, sustain efforts to eradicate polio, expand Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination, strengthen primary healthcare services and improve long-term vaccine financing.
Prof. Pate welcomed Gavi’s new country-focused funding model, which introduces a five-year financing framework to support national health priorities.
He said the $500 million allocation would enable Nigeria to plan more effectively, strengthen its immunisation programme and expand access to life-saving vaccines for children and other vulnerable populations.
The minister reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to working with development partners to improve healthcare delivery and achieve better health outcomes nationwide.
