The Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, has honoured its 24th Commandant, Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Patrick A. Atayero, with a ceremonial pulling-out parade to mark his retirement from the Nigeria Police Force after attaining the mandatory retirement age of 60.
The colourful ceremony, held at the Academy, coincided with Atayero’s 60th birthday and drew senior police officers, military personnel, government officials, traditional rulers, academics and other dignitaries.
The parade featured precision drills by cadets in honour of the retiring Commandant, whose tenure was credited with significant improvements in infrastructure, discipline and academic development at the institution.
In his valedictory address, AIG Atayero expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his leadership and ongoing reforms in the Nigeria Police Force, describing the opportunity to serve under the administration as a great privilege.
He also acknowledged the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for entrusting him with the leadership of the Academy and supporting efforts to reposition the institution.
The retiring police chief further appreciated the Kano State Government, the Ministry of Police Affairs, the Police Service Commission, members of the National Assembly, Force Management Team, local government authorities, traditional rulers, religious leaders, the Police Community Relations Committee, colleagues and members of staff of the Academy for their support throughout his tenure.
Paying tribute to the Academy’s workforce, Atayero described both the professional training personnel and the academic staff as the driving force behind the institution’s mission of producing future police leaders.
