Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Chief Samuel Ogbuku, has reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to partnering with the legal community to advance sustainable development in the Niger Delta and across Nigeria.

Speaking on Wednesday at the NDDC Law and Development Summit 2026 in Port Harcourt, Ogbuku stated that the Commission recognises the law as a critical tool for driving social transformation, economic growth, environmental protection, institutional accountability, and human capital development.

He noted that the summit was organised to provide a platform for legal practitioners, policymakers, judicial officers, development experts, academics, civil society groups, and other stakeholders to explore how legal frameworks and governance systems can support sustainable regional development.

According to him, the engagement was a continuation of commitments made during the 65th Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) held in Enugu, where the NDDC pledged closer collaboration with the legal profession in promoting development-oriented policies.

Ogbuku stressed that effective laws and enforceable regulatory frameworks remain essential for achieving inclusive growth, social justice, and lasting development in the Niger Delta region.

He added that deliberations at the summit highlighted the important role of legal professionals in shaping policies and institutional structures capable of addressing developmental challenges and strengthening governance.

The NDDC boss assured stakeholders that the Commission would continue to leverage strategic partnerships with the legal community and other relevant institutions to accelerate development initiatives and contribute to national progress.

The summit featured discussions on law, governance, environmental sustainability, policy implementation, and institutional reforms aimed at fostering long-term development in the Niger Delta.
