In a significant step towards enhancing inter-agency cooperation, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has paid a historic courtesy visit to the national headquarters of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Abuja.
The NSCDC National Public Relations Officer, ACC Afolabi Babawale, confirmed the development in a statement issued in Abuja, describing as the first of its kind at this level, was aimed at deepening operational synergy between both agencies in response to Nigeria’s evolving internal security challenges.

During discussions with the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR, and senior management staff, the IGP stressed the need for stronger collaboration, particularly in intelligence sharing and coordinated operations.
According to him, both institutions play complementary roles in safeguarding lives and property, making closer cooperation essential for national stability.
“We must continue to support one another as we face complex security threats. Effective intelligence sharing and joint operations are critical to achieving sustainable peace across the country,” the IGP stated.
He added that security agencies must increasingly operate as a unified force rather than in isolation, especially in addressing emerging threats across different regions.
In his response, the Commandant General of the NSCDC reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to sustained partnership with the Nigeria Police Force, describing the relationship as longstanding and vital to national security efforts.
Professor Audi emphasized that collaboration, coordination, and cooperation remain key principles for effective security management in the country. He also called for greater citizen involvement in security awareness and intelligence reporting.
He further referenced global best practices, noting that some countries have successfully strengthened security through active public participation in intelligence gathering and reporting.

The visit concluded with an exchange of souvenirs and a group photograph session involving senior officials from both agencies, including the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Mohammed Sanusi, and the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, mni.
