The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, has commended the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) for choosing the state to host its annual conference, saying the event has helped counter negative perceptions about the security situation in Rivers State.

Adepoju made the remarks during a dinner organised for police lawyers from various zones and commands at the Officers’ Mess in Port Harcourt.

He said the hosting of the 66th Annual General Conference of the NBA in the state was evidence that Rivers State remains safe, contrary to negative claims in some quarters.

According to him, the successful hosting of the conference demonstrated the confidence of the NBA and other stakeholders in the state’s security situation.

Also speaking at the event, the State Legal Officer, Directorate of Legal Services, Rivers State Police Command, CSP Stephen Onwochei, described the dinner as more than a social gathering.

Onwochei said the event provided an opportunity for stakeholders to strengthen professional relationships, foster collaboration and promote justice and the rule of law.

The Director, Directorate of Force Legal Services, Force Headquarters, Abuja, CP Aremu Silas, also commended the Rivers State Police Command’s legal officers for their contributions to the Directorate of Legal Services.

Silas said the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, had previously served as Commissioner of Police in Rivers State and remained appreciative of the performance of the Directorate of Legal Services during his tenure in the state.

He noted that the IGP had not forgotten the contributions of the directorate in the Rivers State Police Command.

Silas urged legal officers in other state commands to emulate the professionalism and performance of their Rivers State counterparts.
