The Lagos State Government has unveiled a three-year strategic plan aimed at strengthening HIV prevention, testing, treatment and care across the state.
The 2025–2027 Lagos State HIV Strategic Plan is designed to improve coordination of HIV programmes, resources and partnerships while addressing existing gaps in the state’s response to the epidemic.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State AIDS Control Agency (LSACA), Dr Folakemi Animashaun, disclosed this during the dissemination of the strategic document.
According to her, the plan provides a framework for coordinating HIV interventions and ensuring that programmes are implemented towards achieving measurable targets by 2027.
“The Plan provides a clear framework for coordinating HIV programmes, resources and partnerships towards achieving measurable results by 2027,” Animashaun said.
She noted that Lagos had made progress in HIV prevention, testing, treatment and community-based interventions, but said challenges remained in reaching some populations and ensuring sustained access to care.
Animashaun identified the expansion of prevention and testing services, improved linkage of people living with HIV to treatment, retention in care and achievement of viral suppression as key areas requiring sustained attention.
She said the dissemination of the strategic plan would allow stakeholders to assess progress, identify shortcomings and strengthen efforts towards meeting the targets set for 2027.
“The dissemination is an opportunity for stakeholders to review progress, identify gaps and refocus collective efforts on achieving the Plan’s targets before 2027,” she said.
The LSACA chief executive assured that the agency would continue to coordinate the state’s HIV response, mobilise resources and monitor the implementation of programmes, while promoting decisions based on evidence.
She stressed that achieving a sustainable HIV response would require stronger collaboration among government institutions, development partners, civil society organisations, communities and healthcare providers.
“Sustained collaboration, adequate resources and effective coordination are critical to achieving a stronger and more sustainable HIV response in Lagos State,” Animashaun said.
Animashaun commended the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), relevant government ministries, development partners, civil society organisations, communities and healthcare workers for their contributions to the state’s HIV response.
