The Lagos State Government has taken delivery of Compressed Natural Gas and electric buses as part of efforts to expand the state’s public transportation fleet and promote cleaner mobility.
The buses were received on behalf of the state government on Thursday and handed over to transport operators under the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority at the Bus Rapid Transit depot in Ketu.
The deployment is expected to increase the number of alternative-energy vehicles operating within Lagos and support efforts to provide residents with more efficient public transportation.

Speaking during the handover, Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation Oluwaseun Osiyemi commended President Bola Tinubu for facilitating the deployment of CNG and electric buses to states across the country.
Osiyemi said the initiative would complement the state government’s efforts to make public transportation more affordable while reducing dependence on conventional fuels.
He added that expanding the use of CNG and electric vehicles could also contribute to lower transport-related emissions and support the state’s transition towards cleaner mobility.

According to the commissioner, the additional buses are expected to improve access to public transportation and strengthen commuting options for residents.
The latest deployment forms part of broader efforts to expand Lagos’ public transport system and introduce cleaner-energy alternatives into its bus network.
