One person has died, and three others sustained serious injuries in a road crash along the Lagos Coastal Road, near Eko Hotel, in the early hours of Thursday.

The accident involved a grey Lexus RX 350 with registration number LSD 554 KV.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, said its personnel were deployed to the scene shortly after the crash was reported.

According to preliminary findings, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to hit a roadside pole before overturning.

Three injured occupants were rescued from the wreckage with assistance from members of the public and taken to Duck-Yard Hospital within the Military Zone for emergency treatment.

Security personnel from Victoria Island also assisted during the rescue operation, while other emergency agencies were involved in managing the scene.

LASTMA personnel subsequently evacuated the damaged vehicle from the roadway to prevent further incidents and restore the free flow of traffic.

The circumstances surrounding the crash remained subject to further investigation.

Reacting to the incident, LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki sympathised with the family of the deceased and urged motorists to exercise caution while driving.

He advised drivers to observe appropriate speed limits, remain vigilant and comply with traffic regulations to reduce the risk of road crashes.

Bakare-Oki also urged members of the public to promptly report road crashes, broken-down vehicles, obstructions and other traffic emergencies to enable timely intervention by the agency.
