The Lagos International Theatre Festival, LITF, will return for its 2026 edition from November 14 to 15 at the MUSON Centre, Lagos, bringing together theatre productions and artists from Nigeria and three other countries.
The festival will run under the theme “The Masks We Wear,” alongside the statement, “The Stage Is Everywhere,” reflecting its focus on the different identities and roles people assume in everyday life.
Organisers said the 2026 programme will feature artists and productions from Nigeria, Kenya, Canada and Brazil, combining international performances with works from established and emerging Nigerian theatre makers.
Among the international productions is “Under The Mango Tree” by Grand Theatre, Canada, directed by Lynette Randall. Productions from Kenya and Brazil are also scheduled to feature.
The Nigerian programme will include productions from Lagos, Abuja, Enugu and Abeokuta.
Among them are “Monkey Laundry,” directed by Olarotimi Fakunle; “tHERapy,” directed by Tosin Adeyemi; “Men-Oh-Pause,” directed by Elvina Ibru; and “Behind Closed Doors,” directed by Bolanle Austen-Peters.
The festival will also provide opportunities for younger and emerging theatre makers, with productions involving Atlantic Hall, Evergreen College and Children International School appearing alongside professional and independent theatre groups.
ACTIVITIES BEGIN NOVEMBER 9
Events leading to the main festival will begin on November 9 with Theatre Meets Food, hosted by chef and entrepreneur Hilda Baci. The programme is expected to bring together artists, cultural leaders, partners and other members of the creative community.
Embassy Nights will follow on November 10 and 11, focusing on cultural exchange among diplomatic representatives, artists and creative-industry stakeholders.
On November 12, Conversations and Culture will feature masterclasses and discussions covering mental health and wellness, vocal performance, DJing, copyright and other issues affecting the creative sector.
An Opening Night Gala will take place on November 13 before the main theatre programme begins the following day.
Festival founder Bolanle Austen-Peters said this year’s theme was designed to encourage audiences to examine the different roles people assume in society while expanding the idea of where theatrical expression can take place.
The main festival performances will run on November 14 and 15 at the MUSON Centre.
