Participants at the 2026 Jobberman Career Clinic in Uyo have described the programme as a transformative experience that exposed them to emerging career opportunities in technology, artificial intelligence and remote work, while equipping them with practical skills for today’s evolving job market.
The participants spoke at the close of the career clinic organised by Jobberman in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation.
A final-year Mathematics Education student of the University of Uyo, Mfoniso Solomon, said the training broadened her understanding of career opportunities in the digital economy and helped her overcome confidence challenges that had limited her professional growth.
She explained that the programme introduced her to the potential of artificial intelligence, technology and remote work, while encouraging her to use social media more productively and deliberately pursue career development.
Solomon added that she intends to leverage the Akwa Ibom Employment Portal and other digital platforms to explore job opportunities and continue building relevant skills for the future of work.
Similarly, a Geo-Informatics student of the University of Uyo, Richard Pedro, said the clinic improved his understanding of curriculum vitae preparation, interview techniques and the importance of acquiring digital competencies to remain competitive in the labour market.
He urged young people to take advantage of online learning platforms and career development opportunities to improve their employability.
Earlier, the Country Head of Programmes at Jobberman, Mr Olamide Adeyeye, said the organisation’s partnership with the Mastercard Foundation was established to help young Nigerians secure decent and meaningful employment.
He encouraged participants to adopt the “ABC” model of career development: Audit, Build and Consolidate by assessing their skills, developing relevant competencies and strengthening professional relationships.
Adeyeye challenged the youths to prepare intentionally for the future rather than waiting for opportunities, stressing that every young Nigerian has the potential to contribute meaningfully to national development.
Delivering the keynote address, career development expert Monica Inyang urged participants to take responsibility for shaping their future through continuous learning, innovation and personal development.
She encouraged them to build technical, leadership and creative skills while cultivating values such as integrity, punctuality, reliability and teachability, noting that character remains essential for long-term career success.
Representing Governor Umo Eno at the event, the Commissioner for Labour and Manpower Planning, Hon. Ikoedem Ekong, said the career clinic aligns with the Akwa Ibom State Government’s commitment to youth empowerment under the ARISE Agenda.
He highlighted government initiatives, including ARISE ICT, Youth Development Centres across the 31 local government areas and the Akwa Ibom Employment Portal, aimed at expanding access to digital skills training and employment opportunities.
