The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has disclosed that its newly appointed Registrar, Professor Segun Aina, played a significant role in the early development and implementation of the Computer-Based Test (CBT) system that transformed Nigeria’s examination process.

The board made the revelation on Thursday in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, following the announcement of Aina’s appointment by President Bola Tinubu.

President Tinubu had earlier approved the appointment of Aina, a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), as the next registrar of JAMB. He will succeed Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose second tenure is scheduled to end on July 31, 2026.

According to JAMB, Aina is already familiar with the institution’s operational structure and has contributed significantly to reforms that reshaped the conduct of examinations across the country.

The board noted that Aina was actively involved during the formative period of the CBT system, a transition widely regarded as one of the most important reforms in Nigeria’s examination sector.

“Prof. Aina is not new to the operational ecosystem of the Board, having played a key role during the formative stage of the CBT regime, which has transformed the conduct of examinations in Nigeria,” the statement said.

JAMB stated that the incoming registrar, who possesses extensive experience in technology-driven and data-based institutional systems, will officially assume office on August 1, 2026.

The board further highlighted the impact of previous registrars, stating that their leadership and expertise had continued to strengthen the institution over the years.

“Over the years, the Board has been fortunate to have registrars with world-class experience whose leadership has continued to move the organisation from strength to strength,” the statement added.

Benjamin said JAMB management and staff had congratulated Aina on his appointment and expressed confidence in working with him as he prepares to take over leadership of the examination body.

Earlier, presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga described Aina as a distinguished academic and systems expert with considerable experience in examination systems, digital infrastructure, and public sector reforms.

Onanuga also noted that the 39-year-old scholar, who turns 40 in July, is set to become the youngest registrar in JAMB’s history.
