Technology company itel has warned that it may take legal action against individuals who use artificial intelligence-generated images or other fabricated content to spread false claims about its products.
The warning followed the circulation of an AI-generated image on social media that was falsely presented as showing an itel Power Tank that had allegedly exploded after being overcharged.
itel, in a statement posted on X on Wednesday, rejected the claim, saying both the image and the purported explosion were fabricated.
The controversy followed a post by an X user identified as Enori, who shared the AI-generated image alongside a claim that an itel Power Tank had allegedly exploded.
The user later deleted the post and apologised, acknowledging that both the image and the scenario had been generated using artificial intelligence and that no such incident had occurred.
