The Nigeria Police Force has scheduled September 28 to 30, 2026, for promotion examinations for serving Superintendents of Police seeking elevation to the rank of Chief Superintendent of Police.
The examination is expected to be held across state commands and the Federal Capital Territory, according to a police wireless message dated September 23, 2026.
The directive followed a September 21 communication from the Police Service Commission scheduling the promotion exercise for eligible officers from the rank of SP to CSP.
Under the directive, affected officers serving at Force Headquarters, zonal and state commands and other police formations are to report to designated command headquarters to participate in the examination.
Police authorities directed the officers to prepare adequately by refreshing their knowledge of their core areas of responsibility, including law, local acts and professional studies.
Commands were also instructed to scrutinise the list of candidates and ensure that only officers officially shortlisted for the promotion exercise are permitted to sit for the examination.
Commissioners of Police and other relevant authorities are expected to provide suitable examination venues, logistics and necessary assistance to Police Service Commission personnel assigned to conduct the exercise.
The directive further requires participating commands to submit comprehensive reports on the conduct of the examination by October 2, 2026.
The wireless message, marked “Treat as Very Important,” was signed on behalf of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Secretary’s office.
It was circulated to police departments, zonal and state commands, the FCT Command and several specialised formations across the country.
The list of officers scheduled for the exercise cuts across commands nationwide, including Abia, Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Benue, Borno, Cross River, Delta, Ebonyi, Edo, Ekiti, Enugu, Gombe, Imo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Kogi, Kwara, Lagos, Nasarawa, Niger, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Plateau, Rivers, Sokoto, Taraba, Yobe, Zamfara and the FCT.
The promotion examination forms part of the process for determining the eligibility of serving Superintendents of Police for advancement to the rank of Chief Superintendent of Police.
