Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has vowed that Iranian forces will push what he described as “enemy forces” out of the Arabian Sea as tensions between Tehran and Washington continue amid uncertainty over diplomatic efforts to end the conflict.
Khamenei said Iranian forces had already forced opposing military forces away from waters closer to Iran and towards the Arabian Sea.
He maintained that Iran would continue applying pressure until those forces were pushed farther away from the region.
The remarks come amid continuing military and diplomatic tensions involving Iran and the United States, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz and surrounding waters.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has maintained that Tehran remains prepared for further confrontation while keeping the possibility of negotiations open.
Araghchi said Iran was prepared to pursue what he described as “real diplomacy,” but warned that Tehran would respond to further attacks.
His comments followed the rejection by US President Donald Trump of an Iranian proposal concerning the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and broader efforts to reduce hostilities.
Trump has said he expects further discussions with Iran while maintaining that Washington will continue pursuing its objectives in the conflict.
The Strait of Hormuz remains at the centre of the confrontation because of its strategic importance to international shipping and global energy supplies.
The United States and Iran have also exchanged competing claims about military activities in the waterway.
The US military recently rejected an Iranian claim that its forces had captured an advanced American underwater drone in the Strait of Hormuz.
The disagreement has added to tensions surrounding military operations in and around the strategic waterway.
Meanwhile, British counter-terrorism police are investigating five men arrested near RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire, an airbase used by the United States for operations connected with the Iran conflict.
British authorities said the men were initially arrested on suspicion of offences under the Explosives Act before being further arrested on suspicion of preparing a terrorist act.
Police were alerted after receiving information about three suspicious vehicles apparently travelling towards the airbase.
Bomb-disposal specialists were subsequently deployed to examine the vehicles, while residents of nearby properties were temporarily evacuated as a precaution.
Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the incident, including whether there was any foreign involvement.
British authorities have not established an Iranian connection to the suspected plot, and the identities, nationalities and motives of the arrested men have not been publicly confirmed.
The developments come as diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions between Washington and Tehran remain uncertain, while military activity surrounding the Strait of Hormuz and other waters near Iran continues to fuel concerns about further escalation.
