Abia State Government has handed over the first Nigerian Air Force Administrative Complex in Umuahia to the Federal Government, in a move aimed at strengthening security and enhancing the protection of lives and property across the state.
Governor Alex Otti, who performed the handover, described the project as a landmark achievement and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to making security a top priority.
He noted that the establishment of the Nigerian Air Force presence in Abia completes the deployment of the nation’s three armed services in the state, alongside the Nigerian Army in Ohafia and the Nigerian Navy in Owerinta, thereby reinforcing the state’s security architecture.
Governor Otti expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Minister of Defence, and the Chief of the Air Staff for their support and collaboration, describing the project as a testament to the benefits of partnership between the Federal Government and state governments.
The governor also announced that the state government has allocated land at the ongoing Abia Airport project in Nsulu for the establishment of a permanent Nigerian Air Force Base, describing it as a strategic step towards sustaining the Air Force’s presence in the state.
According to him, the facility is expected to boost socio-economic development, create employment opportunities for young people, and provide a more secure environment for investment and growth.
Governor Otti assured officers and personnel of the Nigerian Air Force of the state’s full support as they discharge their constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and safeguarding the territorial integrity of the nation.
