Iranian state media has reported that “enemy” projectiles struck several areas in Sirik, a coastal region in southern Iran, amid escalating military exchanges between Tehran and Washington.
Multiple explosions were reported across parts of Sirik, including areas in Minab County and Qeshm Island, according to Iranian media reports.
The reported strikes came as tensions continued to rise in the ongoing conflict between Iran and the United States, with both sides carrying out attacks involving military and maritime targets.
US President Donald Trump said the war with Iran would end after the November midterm elections, adding that negotiations with Tehran remained possible despite Washington not actively pursuing a deal.
Meanwhile, vessel movements through the Strait of Hormuz have declined amid fears of further disruptions to global energy supplies. Preliminary ship-tracking data showed only seven vessel transits on Wednesday, compared with a 10-day average of 14.
The latest escalation follows Iranian retaliatory strikes after the United States said it had targeted five Iranian oil tankers. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it responded by striking several tankers, two warships and a US-linked airbase in Jordan.
US media reports indicated that multiple American military aircraft were damaged during Iranian strikes on the Muwaffaq Salti airbase in Jordan. About eight F-15 fighter jets reportedly sustained light damage, while an A-10 Thunderbolt aircraft was said to have lost a wing.
The Jordanian military said it intercepted most of the missiles launched towards Al-Azraq airbase, with 18 out of 20 projectiles destroyed and two landing in open areas.
The conflict has also pushed oil prices higher, with Brent crude trading above $100 per barrel as markets remain concerned about possible disruptions to Middle Eastern energy supplies.
