The Osun State Police Command has arrested a man, Taye Kasali, for allegedly killing his mother, Kudirat Kasali, following a dispute over plans to lease the family farmland.
The suspect, a resident of Bose Osi, Osun State, allegedly buried his mother’s remains in a shallow grave within the family farm after the incident.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed in a statement that the case was reported on September 1, 2026, after Kudirat Kasali and her son were declared missing.

According to the police, the investigation led to the arrest of Taye Kasali on September 7, after which he allegedly confessed to the crime.
The suspect reportedly told investigators that he acted after his mother allegedly referred to him as mentally unstable and threatened to lease out the farmland, which he described as the family’s major source of livelihood.
Police said the suspect confessed to killing his mother on August 31 by allegedly slitting her throat with a machete before burying her in a shallow grave on the farm.
Following the confession, the suspect reportedly led police officers to the location where the remains were recovered, alongside the machete allegedly used in the attack.

The Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, has ordered a thorough investigation into the matter and directed that the suspect be charged in court upon completion of the investigation.
The command urged members of the public to promptly report missing persons and suspicious activities to security agencies to assist in preventing similar incidents.
